Traveling to Japan in 2023

Japan

What can I say? An unforgettable experience to travel to Japan.

And, everyone’s doing it, so why not us too?

12 days - 3 cities - 2 bullet train rides - countless bowls of ramen and my first onsen experience. It was magical, and the people are incredible. I can’t wait to go back.

I hope you enjoy the photos of our trip. I’ll take you from our first destination/arrival into Tokyo, then to Kyoto, onto Takayama and back to Tokyo. Let's go!

TOKYO

We spent the first three days in Japan in the heart of Tokyo. The second day we were in Tokyo was a national holiday, Japan Culture Day! 🇯🇵 (See photo above). All the museums were free, people and children were out of school and work and the city felt alive with celebration of heritage and community. It was beautiful. The last two days of our Japan travel we also spent wandering around Tokyo, shopping, seeing all the lights and eating as much as we could before we had to head home. Here's a series of all that Tokyo shared with us. We will always have a little piece of our hearts here.

KYOTO

We were in Kyoto for 2 full days, 3 nights following Tokyo. We took the Shinkansen Train (Bullet Train) to Kyoto from Tokyo. We stayed in the city center, which made it easy for us to get around. We visited the major city park, the bamboo forest, the Philosopher's Path and had the yummiest food, including famous Japanese Pizza!

TAKAYAMA

The Japanese countryside + into the alps + the traditional farmhouses. The peacefulness, wrapped in nature and dedicated to more slow adventure/travel, also, the Hida beef is out of this world. From here we went to Hirayuonsen, one hour by bus into the mountains for the night.

Thank you!

For enjoying all of these photos! I hope these photos inspire you to go to Japan.

If you’d like to know where we stayed, what we did and all the details, please comment below and I’ll start to include those into my travel blogs - maybe I’ll make another one dedicated to all those things! Happy Travels,

Laura Ashley Smith ❤︎
